The beauty of projects like this is how the whole stairwell suddenly comes alive around you. Throughout the day, neighbours pass by — some of them several times — and almost everyone stops to say hello. Some offer tea, others linger for a bit of small talk.

You may not become friends, but people stop feeling like strangers.

For an introvert like me, that’s quite an experience.
