§31. Rule 16. Put Tools Away
hands date:

hands text:
The end crowns the work.
01
I try to finish the day with enough time and energy left to clean and put the tools away. This is not always easy. When tired, it is tempting to leave everything where it lies and convince yourself that it will only take a few minutes to sort out in the morning. I resist this temptation.
02
Without boundaries, a day becomes a blur and work expands indefinitely. Yesterday leaks into today and tomorrow begins before today has properly ended. Putting the tools away is my way of saying that today's work is complete. It allows the day to end.
03
A clean bucket, a washed sponge and tools returned to their proper places do not make the work easier. But disorder has a habit of carrying itself forward. Yesterday's haste becomes today's irritation.
Perhaps this is why I prefer to leave things in order. Work should finish deliberately rather than collapse from exhaustion.
