Glossary of tiling terms

BARBOTINE — technique used in tiling where tiles are painted with a coloured slip, which is a mixture of clay and water, and then coated with glaze. This process results in a vibrant and textured appearance, with the glaze adding a glossy finish to the decorated surface of the tile. Barbotine tiles are admired for their intricate detailing and the unique visual effects achieved through this combination of slip and glaze.
