Glossary of tiling terms

BRICK DUST — Red dust of various shades and weights called chamotte, obtained by grinding leftovers of brick production.

In tiling, brick dust serves multiple purposes. It can be used as a dye to impart a reddish hue to mortar or grout, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of brickwork.

Additionally, brick dust can act as an inert material, adding bulk and improving the workability of mortars. Its inclusion aids in achieving desired consistency and durability in tiling applications, making it a valuable ingredient in construction and restoration projects.
