Glossary of tiling terms
CLAY — is an aluminum silicate that also contains other silicates, iron oxides, alkalis, calcium sulphates, and organic substances.
It contains a certain quantity of water and, immediately after extraction, it has a plastic consistency. If properly modelled, clay dries and hardens, preserving its natural colour.
In tiling, clay serves as a fundamental material for the production of ceramic tiles. Its plasticity allows for easy shaping and forming of tiles before they are fired in a kiln. Clay-based tiles offer a wide range of design possibilities, from rustic terracotta to glazed porcelain.
The natural properties of clay, such as its durability and ability to retain color, make it a preferred choice for creating beautiful and long-lasting tiled surfaces.
