Glossary of tiling terms
COGOLO — refers to partially calcined limestone, which is a byproduct of lime production. When limestone is incompletely calcined, it transforms into a white stone known as cogolo. It is used for cutting mosaic tesserae or marble chips, especially in the creation of Venetian terrazzo floors.
There are two distinct types of cogolo available: the "male" variant, which is compact and boasts a remarkably smooth surface, and the "female" variant, characterized by a granular texture and less compact composition.
