POZZOLANA — also known as pozzolanic ash, pozzolana is a sedimentary pyroclastic material consisting of highly reactive aluminates and silicates. The term "pozzolana" originates from the primary deposits of volcanic ash utilized by the Romans in Italy, specifically in Pozzuoli. When mixed with lime, pozzolana powder sets in water. The Romans extensively employed pozzolana to prepare mortars, benefiting from its hydraulic properties and enhancing the durability of their constructions.
