Glossary of tiling terms

SEALING — the process of safeguarding porous surfaces and materials from absorbing moisture and dirt, commonly used in tiling. A sealer is applied to create a protective barrier that helps to maintain the appearance and longevity of the surface. It prevents liquids and contaminants from penetrating the material, making it easier to clean and maintain.

Sealing is particularly important for natural stones, such as marble and granite, as well as grout lines, ensuring they remain resistant to stains, water damage, and other forms of deterioration. Regular reapplication of the sealer is necessary to maintain its effectiveness over time.
