Glossary of tiling terms
Silk-screen printing — decoration method commonly used for pottery and tiles. It involves transferring designs onto the surface of the ceramic material using a silk screen.
The process begins by creating a stencil of the desired design on a fine mesh screen, typically made of silk or synthetic fibers. The screen is then placed over the ceramic surface, and ink or ceramic pigments are applied onto the screen. A squeegee or rubber blade is used to evenly distribute the ink across the screen, forcing it through the open areas of the stencil and onto the ceramic surface below. This results in a precise and detailed reproduction of the design onto the pottery or tile.
