Glossary of tiling terms
Translucent glazes — transparent glazes that have been infused with small amounts of ceramic colorants. These glazes are specifically formulated to maintain their transparency while subtly altering the colour of the underlying surface. The addition of ceramic colorants allows the printed or relief-moulded design of the tile to shine through the glaze, creating a visually appealing effect.
These glazes are typically applied in thin layers to maintain their transparency. The firing process is carefully controlled to ensure that the glaze retains its translucency and adheres properly to the tile surface.
