Glossary of tiling terms
ZILLIJ — a traditional Moorish (Moroccan) style of tiling that involves intricate designs made from precisely shaped, highly glazed tiles.
The tiles, known as furmah, are meticulously cut to fit together seamlessly, creating complex patterns and motifs. Once the furmah tiles are laid, a mixture of concrete is poured over them to form a solid slab, providing stability and durability to the intricate mosaic.
Zillij is known for its vibrant colours, geometric patterns, and the meticulous craftsmanship required to achieve its intricate designs.
