Restoration work on the floor of the Chapter House at York Minster received surprisingly little attention. We find this very strange.
02
The floor was originally laid in 1845, replacing the stone floor laid when the Minster was built in the end of the thirteenth century. The Minton tiles had suffered considerable damage due to settlement in the stonework supporting the floor over vaulting beneath.
03
The restoration was done using lime mortar and steel reinforcing and mesh were used to counter movement in the substrate.

Our deepest respects to Mr Mark Taylor of York Victorian Tilers who carried out the works and Craven, Dunnill and Co, Jackfiel, Shropshire who manufactured the replacement tiles.
