§6. Cutting

Seven times measure, cut once.

One must account for the cutting kerf and, in some cases, the thickness of the marks. The kerf is the width of a cut left by the blade.

When marking your line, think where you are going to make your cut in relation to this line. It is generally considered a good practice to mark the waste side but, in the end, this is a matter of personal preference.

What matters, is that you place the blade on the side of the line, that is, the edge of the cutting blade touches the side of the line and not going through it.

The same applies to the marks. Many marking tools, lasers and so on have considerable thickness of their own. There are projects with tights tolerances where such small things become important, so it is better to keep right habits all the time.
