hands text:
A fool looks to the beginning, a wise man regards the end.
English proverb
Although the unconscious mind can compose a symphony
and solve a mathematical problem that has been around for centuries,
it can’t multiply 173 by 19.
Richard Nisbett
01
Before starting any work, one must first understand what needs to be done. This is old advice, even banal. In Latin, it sounded like this: “RESPICE FINEM”.
02
It is, therefore, surprising how often this good advice is not followed; people too quickly get down to business without properly understanding the goal they want to achieve and how they plan to get there.
03
Most jobs fail because they were not well thought out in the first place. Before starting any work, you must ensure that both the material and the result appear in front of your mind's eye. In detail. This is not always easy. Important details are left out and incorrect assumptions are made.
04
This process is reminiscent of the work of an engineer or a designer. They sketch, measure, create drawings, re-check. It is important that such work is done in the mind of the craftsman. This requires a conscious effort and self-control.
05
“Anything you can imagine, you can create,” says Oprah Winfrey. The world is full of people spouting nonsensical statements like this. “If my mind can conceive it and my heart can believe it – then I can achieve it.”
06
This is, of course, not true. The true statement sounds like this: “If you can’t imagine something you, most likely, can’t make it.”
07
Use pen and paper if you need them but you must have some kind of a plan.
08
A slow beginning is a good beginning.
